The Why

We believe that every story that emerges from the Rhode Island housing crisis deserves to be heard.

Why did we start this project and why you should joi too...

The Rhode Island Housing Advocacy Project embarked on this initiative to address the housing crisis and insecurity within the state. Recognizing the profound impact of homelessness on individuals and families, the project aims to shed light on the personal stories and struggles of those affected by housing insecurity. By documenting the experiences of people living on the streets and those involved with the fight for better housing conditions and security for all, the project seeks to humanize these individuals, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges they face daily and their backgrounds.

By narrating the human side of the crisis, the project endeavors to break down stereotypes and stigmas associated with homelessness, fostering a more compassionate and informed approach to addressing the complex problem of housing insecurity.

Who are we?

RIHAP, Housing Opportunities for People Everywhere (HOPE), and other housing justice advocates have partnered together hoping to rekindle a sense of shared responsibility and encourage a collective effort towards comprehensive solutions for housing issues.

The Rhode Island Real People Project is one of the many initiatives that emerged from the mission of RIHAP, HOPE, and many other advocates for housing justice.

The Rhode Island Housing Advocacy Project is a grassroots organization dedicated to advocating for the rights and well-being of housing insecure individuals and families in the state. Committed to driving positive change, the organization employs a multifaceted approach that combines protests, community discussions, and now the Rhode Island Real People Project to address the housing crisis. Recognizing the need for a more personal and empathetic understanding of the challenges faced by those living on the streets, the organization recently launched this groundbreaking project in partnership with Housing Opportunities for People Everywhere to record the stories of individuals affected by housing insecurity.
